32-year-old casual player chiming in here: I feel like I only exist as fodder

    Posted: 05 Apr 2021 03:40 AM PDT

Alright, so these threads are dime-a-dozen, I know. Everyone and their mama is sick and tired of insanely OP meta weapons, bugs, P-2-W roze skins that can seemingly hide in plain sight, endless bugs and gamebreaking glitches, lack of new meaningful content.... the list goes on and on.

I could live with all of that and still find some enjoyment, if only the matchmaking were a little more fairly balanced. When I first started playing WarZone, it never felt this intensely "sweaty", to use a tired old repetitive term. I saw my brothers-in-law playing and thought it looked fun, and hadn't really touched a BR since early PUBG days. Played a few matches, learned the ropes, and after getting ass-whooped for a few days, finally got the hang of it. I'm a longtime gamer, both controller/console and PC/KB+M. I'm competent, but by no means pro level and my "tryhard" days in late-teens and 20's of playing FPS games like CS Source and Cod4 are far behind me.

The time in my life is long gone when I could freely dedicate hours every day to grinding and practicing to "git gud" as the kids nowadays say. I work fulltime, have a wife and young child, as well as all the other social and family responsibilities that come with adulthood. I appreciate a challenging game, I appreciate a tough contest, and I am well versed in BR games and understand that winning is rare -- it's the excitemend and heart-pounding action which is the real reward.

I fully expect to go up against my own skill-level, and even beyond! It would be unreasonable of me to demand that all my opponents are only of equal-or-lesser value than myself -- that would be boring and without challenge.

But when I come home after a long work-week, the kid's asleep, chores are done, family is fed, wife is busy and I have somehow magically found myself with a rare hour or two of free-time to have some fun with my Brothers-in-law, it is absolutely deflating to wind up in lobby after lobby, battle after losing battle of complete TTV-FaZe-Diamond-stompfests in which I basically feel like nothing more than a mannequin for much more talented and dedicated players and squads to effortlessly demolish.

Once upon a time, me and the brothers could fire up a game and actually have fun. Shoot the shit, joke around, get into wacky situations and still manage to rack up a few kills -- and even the occasional win once in a while!

Now when we play, there is no chitchat. No smalltalk. No goofing off or wacky situations, no "casual" element to the gameplay. Just sweat. Just white-knuckle focus and essential comms. High tempers. Frustration. Overexertion. Sadness. And ultimately, no fun anymore.

I like this game, Activision. It has so much potential. I haven't had this much fun gaming with friends in a long time, and when I first started playing around a year ago, it brought me back to "the good old days" as a carefree adolescent just gaming with his buds.

Surely there is a place for an aging Gen-Y dad to live it up for an hour or two once in a while and have some fun with his buddies. I really wanted Warzone to be that place. But frankly, I just don't feel like I have it in me to give what this game demands in terms of sacrifice and mastery anymore.

I hold out hope that a time will come when I can find "fun" lobbies again, but that seems like wishful thinking now.

Rant's over, if you're an aging gamer past their prime like me and have had a similar experience, please drop a comment so I don't go crazy thinking I'm the only one out there!

Foresight is the latest thing in a long line of game ruining "innovations" by Raven

There hasn't been a single endgame without a team holding an absolute power position, fully kitted out. Depending on the zone, it's either impossible or nigh impossible to push that, at least without completely exposing yourself to every other team still in the game.

    Conversely, we've only won games where we've bought a foresight, and we've won like 60% of them. I can't, I really can't

    First Warzone solo win!

    Posted: 05 Apr 2021 10:35 AM PDT

After months and months of trying, I finally got my first solo win today! Now, I suck at Warzone, so I thought I was going to go without a solo win before moving on to the next game. This feels good, and also a bit lame as I'm actually this excited!

    Thanks for reading!
